Welcome To Roscrea – you have travelled an ancient route to get here
The train station has seen busy days over the years. A Guinness depot until 1970’s, it was also a major part of the food production industry in Roscrea with animals transported along the rails as well as people. Founded in 1907, the Roscrea Bacon Factory, located near the Train Station, became the first industrial co-op in these islands and won medals for its hams at the London Exhibitions in its early years.
The fine train station buildings with stone flag floors were built around 1870 and the lovely two storey signal box dates to 1895.
