Roscrea Courthouse

About Roscrea Courthouse

Built in 1820, the courthouse was designed by Jacob Owen, and is noted for its architectural features like round-headed window openings, stone detailing, and coursed snecked sandstone walls. Originally a courthouse, it served as a venue for legal proceedings, including, notably, the trial of Father Nicholas Sheehy in the 18th century. The building later transitioned into a community center and now hosts exhibitions and events.

The courthouse has undergone an award-winning restoration, with the open arcade of sandstone columns once again becoming a focal point. Age Friendly Roscrea currently use the courthouse for weekly get togethers and workshops.
